My Approach.
What it’s like to work with me:
My style is warm, approachable, and informal. While humor is never the main focus of our work, I welcome it whenever it shows up. My goal is to offer a space where you can metaphorically let your hair down and just be a person for a while. You don't have to show up knowing exactly what you want to talk about or how to explain it. We can find the words and direction together.
The focus of our sessions will adapt to what you need most each week. Some days we might dive into understanding patterns, processing emotions, or making sense of difficult experiences. Other days might focus on practical skill development and tangible goals. Whatever brings you in, my hope is that therapy helps you understand yourself more and leaves you feeling better equipped for whatever comes next.
My Approach/ Philosophy
I am a person-centered therapist. Broadly, this means:
You lead.
You get to lead the process and direction of therapy. If you aren’t sure where to start on a given day, I’ll help you find a place to begin.
I show up genuinely in session.
The relationship between therapist and client matters. I aim to be authentic, present, and engaged rather than hide behind a professional mask.
You’ll be met with unconditional positive regard.
I got into this profession because I genuinely like people, and I care about my clients. There is always something to appreciate about you, even when things feel messy or when you’re seeing yourself at your worst. Basically, you won’t have to wonder if your therapist likes you. I will.
I believe that therapy should leave you more empowered over time.
When our work together comes to an end, my hope is that you leave with a stronger sense of trust in yourself and confidence in your ability to handle whatever life throws your way.
I integrate these modalities:
-
CBT helps you understand the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we can identify patterns that may be contributing to distress and explore alternative ways of thinking and responding. CBT is a well-researched, evidence-based approach that is particularly effective for anxiety and depression.
-
Mind-body integration focuses on developing awareness of physical sensations in the body, and understanding what they are telling us. Due to the busy pace of modern life, many people lose touch with these signals.
The body is constantly responding to its environment and experiences, whether or not we are paying attention. Learning to notice these signals can help you better understand your physical needs, emotions, stress levels, and responses to your environment.
-
SFBT starts with where you want to go rather than where you've been. It is a forward-looking therapy approach that focuses on identifying your goals, recognizing what is already working, and building on your strengths.
-
Career counseling isn’t just about choosing a job or changing careers. Career counseling can help you develop a sustainable relationship with work.
Career counseling can help you:
Better understand your work patterns
Identify what contributes to stress or burnout
Clarify your career goals
Develop effective strategies that work for you
If you are recently laid off or considering a career change, career counseling can be a helpful way to explore what you want to do next.
-
ACT focuses on helping you understand your relationship with your thoughts and feelings. Rather than trying to get rid of difficult emotions, ACT works on developing the skill of psychological flexibility; the ability to make room for difficult experiences while continuing to move toward what matters most to you. ACT is an evidence-based approach that has been extensively researched and shown to be effective for a wide range of concerns.
Fun Fact: Rather than spelling out the abbreviation as “A-C-T,” ACT is meant to pronounced like the word act. A central goal of ACT is to help you take meaningful action in the direction of your values, even when difficult thoughts and feelings show up along the way.
